Super Eagles’Technical Adviser/Chief Coach Gernot Rohr has disclosed that Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi is a very important player for the Nigeria’s senior national football team, www.adantesports.com.ng reports.
The Eagles’ gaffer said without mincing words that the defensive midfielder is a key star for the country’s team. He observed that the Eagles have usually won difficult games when the hard working battling midfielder featured for the team.
Rohr has not hidden the fact that he desperately needs Ndidi to be very fit and available for the two important 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) matches against Benin Republic on the 22nd of March in Cotonou and at home in Nigeria against Lesotho on the 30th of March.
Rohr’s Eagles team needs only two points to qualify for the 2022 AFCON finals holding in Cameroon but the Franco-German tactician is eyeing victories in the remaining two fixtures to top the table.
Rohr is however impressed with Ndidi’s performance for his club in the English Premier League this season since the midfielder came back from injury. He continued his impressive performances for the Forxes.
He opened scoring for his team via a scotcher barely six minutes into Wednesday’s league’ fixture against visiting Chelsea team at the King Power Stadium. His team eventually won the game 2-0 to stay third position on the EPL League table with 38 points from 19 matches played behind league leaders Manchester United which has 40 points.
“About Ndidi we can only say that we were missing him so much in our last games and we hope to see him very fit in March again for the two remaining AFCON qualification games. He is now a key player for us in the heart of the team”, Rohr told SPORTINGLIFE.
