Battle against Republic of Benin: Rohr eyes Lookman, Awoniyi, Sadiq

Super Eagles team handler Gernot Rohr has revealed that he would likely invite there Nigerian strikers who are currently doing well with their clubs Ademola Lookman of Fulham of England, Taiwo Awoniyi and Sadiq Umar for the AFCON qualifier against Benin Republic in Cotonou in March next year.

Rohr who has been monitoring the said players said he would consider inviting them if they continue to churn good performances for their clubs like they were doing recently.

“Some of the other boys that are playing in Europe could be invited for the very first time if they agree. Player like Ademola Lookman (of Fulham) is one of them, Taiwo Awoniyi and Sadiq Umar stands the chance of being invited too.

“We have so many good players in Europe that are doing very well for their clubs and we are monitoring them all”, Rohr told SPORTINGLIFE in an exclusive chat from his base in Germany.

The Eagles Coach is also happy that the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) is starting in December 27 after a long absence due to Coronavirus pandemic.

 “I heard the Nigerian League resumes on the 27th of this month, that will give me and my assistants the opportunity of watching this boys play again”.

Rohr also vowed to watch a lot of matches involving his players better now and March 2021.

“Everything is okay here in Europe and we can see our players very often and we will be able to monitor a lot of games in other to assess the level of readiness of our players in Europe for the AFCON and World Cup qualifiers slated for next year”, Rohr stated.
